Local10/12/2007‘Miracle’ escape in crashPOLICE say it was a miracle no one was killed when a car with five people on board smashed into a taxi with two passengers at Yarrawonga early yesterday morning. The 2002 Ford XR6, driven by a Yarrawonga man, 21, took more than 80m to stop after the collision about 3am. Police believe speed was a factor. “How no one has died is beyond belief,” Acting Sgt Ted Graham said. “He has failed to give way at the intersection of Witt and Lynch streets, near Lake Mulwala, and hit the taxi with two passengers on board. “The two girls in the cab went to hospital but the rest were okay. “With the brakes locked it has still taken 80m before the car stopped. “How this wasn’t a fatality is a miracle.” Sgt Graham said investigations were continuing. — BRAD WORRALL |
